3/12/10  We will be getting blueberry plants for sale again this Spring. We expect them to arrive sometime mid-April, but we're not exactly sure when. They will be "sharing a ride" to help reduce our carbon footprint to get these plants from our supplier to you. (Yep. We're tryin.)

Last year our plants sold out within a couple of weeks - so stay tuned! Check out our weekly live radio broadcast for up to date information as well.

2010 Plants for Sale

Duke Blueberry Medium-Large

  pointer Early

Mildy Sweet 4-6 ft Stocky Upright Orange, Yellow Leaves  Zone 4-7

MEDIUM-LARGE. Early Season.
Duke is the most widely planted early ripening northern variety, and for good reason. It is a heavy, consistent producer with an attractive, firm, light blue high quality berry. Duke blooms late but ripens early, which protects the blossoms from spring frosts. Branches may droop to the ground when laden with fruit, prompting many gardeners to use a simple trellis as support. Rich green summer foliage turns a gorgeous orange and yellow in the fall.

Reka Blueberry Medium-Large  Dark Blue, Excellent Flavor

  pointer Early

MEDIUM-LARGE. Early Season.
A release from New Zealand, Reka is one of the fastest growing, most adaptable varieties we have evaluated. Reka grows well in a number of different soil types and is more tolerant of wet, heavier ground than many other varieties. Growers are especially enthusiastic about Reka’s extreme production. The yield curve is quite steep, out-producing most others in the early years and surpassing most at maturity. Although it’s found reasonable success in the fresh market, Reka is a preferred variety of process growers for its superior machine harvest characteristics and high yields.

Toro Large Blueberry Mild Sweet 4-6 ft Stocky Upright Crimson Red, Yellow Leaves  Zone 4-7

      pointer Mid

LARGEMid Season.
Toro continues to amaze us with its easy to pick berries that hang like grapes from the stocky bush. While not as fast a grower as some of the other varieties, Toro has outstanding ornamental qualities. The flowers turn from hot pink to bright white and contrast nicely with the bronze colored spring foliage. Deep green summer foliage turns to the brightest of reds and crimson yellow in the fall.

Chandler Blueberry Very Large Excellent 5-7 ft Slightly Spreading Wine, Orange Leaves  Zone 4-7

Mid-Late pointer

VERY LARGE. Mid-Late Season.
Chandler holds the distinction of being the world’s largest blueberry (with the exception of "Bonus" that's going to be incorporated into our picking operation in 2009!) The long ripening season will provide gardeners with a bounty of flavorful, fresh picked fruit for up to six weeks. Eaten by the handful or presented with a specialty dessert, Chandler will be a favorite. Gorgeous green summer foliage turns to a stunning wine and orange in the fall.

Legacy Blueberry Medium-Large Light Blue, Excellent Flavor

Mid-Late pointer

MEDIUM-LARGE. Mid-Late Season.
Legacy is a 1993 USDA release from New Jersey. Observations at Fall Creek® and numerous sites across the country indicate that Legacy is highly adaptable to numerous climates, including many southern and moderate-climate northern regions. This variety tends to be a little slower to produce in the first couple of years, but then responds with very high yields once established. Legacy has received top ranking reviews for its fruit quality, superior scar and flavor. Mechanical harvest suitability is good since the ripe berries detach very easily and green berries hold well.  It will keep its leaves through most of the winter.

Picking Dates

This chart shows comparable picking dates between different varieties.
OUR ACTUAL PICKING DATES ARE ABOUT 1 WEEK EARLIER THAN THIS CHART SHOWS,
as this one came out of Oregon. We actually start picking the Dukes (our earliest variety) around the end of June or so.
Please note that if it's a hot or cool season, it could really effect the picking dates as well.
Hot weather makes them ripen earlier while cold weather allows them to linger longer on the bushes.
