For
the the main counter tops, Dad took 3" thick pine slabs and cut 1
finished edge on each. He then drilled holes for dowels and then glued
them together - which doubled their width. In the above pictures he's
doing some edge sanding.
The surfaces were pretty
rough so Dad got a 4 head floor sander. It made relatively short work
of what would have been an excruciatingly long process with a hand
disk sander.
They came out BEAUTIFULLY.

is a picture of one of the slabs in place. We still need to pour a
clear, thick fiberglass resin over the top, but at least it's sanded
& cut to fit. There will be 2 other countertops like this
one.
